AR  & VR Design

Mockup concept ideas of what a home theater would be like in virtual reality. The main focus would be able to connect to AMC movie theater releases and be able to rent movies at home that are in theaters. This was designed in Figma to be compatible with Oculus/Meta headsets.

Design Differences

When designing for both, there were features that help to differentiate between the two for specific design environments. AR requires design that has to be implemented in the real world while also giving off the spectrum of seeing virtual assets you can interact with. With VR design you create the world of the user interacts with and all assets are in a virtual space for the user to interact with.

Apple Vision Pro

Defined by Apple, the Apple vision pro is, "a spatial computer that blends digital content and apps into your physical space, and lets you navigate using your eyes, hands, and voice.". Apple created a device that creates a digital space in the comfort of your own home linking to owned apple products. Users can create augmented workspaces and environments utilizing Apple's apps and services they provide. 

Meta Quest 2

Defined by Meta, "Meta Quest 2 is a virtual reality headset — our most advanced all-in-one system yet. From multiplayer games to unique social experiences to joining up with friends at a live show or instructor-led workout, Meta Quest 2 provides new opportunities to meet and connect with others.". The Quest 2 puts users in a virtual world where they can interact with 3D environments, connect with people around the world, and customize their environment for the comfortability. 

AR Design

Unlike virtual reality, augmented reality combines digital assets that can show up in the real would that users can interact with.

AR does provide a digital space that users can create and modify, but they still have visibility of the real world and their surroundings.

Interaction

AR provides an interactive experience where users can interact with both physical and digital objects when using an AR device.

Accessibility

AR has more options for accessibility for most devices you can access these settings through your smartphone with no extra cost of buying more system hardware to make accessibility options possible

AR Project Example

Here is a project I made using Apple's Vision Pro guidelines. This is called XENO, an AR experience that helps users understand how to build a computer and learn all the components with the help of an AI assistant.

VR Design

Virtual Reality takes users into its system where they get to explore worlds that aren't possible in the real world. Everything is digital to the user and so is the interactive space they are in.

Immersion

VR is a complete fully immersive digital space of generated environments for users.

Interaction

VR is restricted to user interaction in a virtual environment they are in. Most have generative assets that involve a user creating an avatar to interact in specific scenarios.

Accessibility

For some accessibility options, VR systems may require additional hardware that cost extra. There are accessibility settings for VR in most systems but are limited.

VR Project Example

This is a VR home movie theater experience I call Home Theater VR or HTVR. This experience allows users to experience a real movie theater setting in the comfort of their home while also being allowed to change their viewing environments, movie rentals of new released films, and their subscribed streaming services.
